At least the battle at the bottom end of the Premiership is interesting and Inverness captain Gary Warren kept neutrals intrigued with a stoppage-time equaliser which failed to hoist his side off the foot of the table but moved them to within a point of Hamilton Academical in the play-off position.

The hosts deserved to take all three points but have only themselves to blame for not claiming a fourth successive league win.

“This happened a few times earlier in the season as well, when we just didn’t see things out,” said Archibald. “We did the hard bit by going in front on what was an awkward pitch to play on.

“We had a lot of the ball first half but the enforced substitutions interrupted our flow a bit. But we looked comfortable enough and we should have won.

“It was a sickener. Inverness were hard to play against, they went with three centre-backs but we got a good goal through Kris Doolan that capped off a wonderful performance by him.

“But we’ve got to see the game out. We should have stopped the cross.

They threw everything at it late on and they got their goal.“

While Inverness were happy to allow their opponents possession and actively invited them to come on to their five-man defence, there was a lack of guile about the Glasgow Thistle here.

Indeed, Inverness looked to have scored a perfectly good opener against the run of play when Henri Anier fired a 20-yarder past Tomas Cerny only for an offside flag to rule it out. “I’d like to see that again,” said visiting manager Richie Foran.

For the most part, though, Partick pressed and persevered and finally got their reward when Kris Doolan prodded home a driven cross from Ryan Edwards from six yards.

That should have opened the flood gates but a combination of dour defending and profligate finishing combined to keep the Highlanders in contention.

Even so, when Billy King collected a Brad McKay throw-in, Callum Booth or one of his team-mates ought to have taken one for the team and prevented him sending in his delivery at the death.

Warren launched himself at it to head home at the far post and deflate their rivals.

“I always believe we can score,” said Foran. “I know it was late in the game but when you have the calibre of player we have then we’ll score a lot of goals – and we’ve scored a lot of late goals, too.

“This is a huge point against a very good team. We definitely deserved the draw. This could be a pivotal point for us.”
