Pars United in talks with Ronnie Weymes

THE supporter-led group aiming to save Dunfermline from administration are in talks with a millionaire former director about their proposed takeover of the ailing club.

Businessman Ronnie Weymes, who is the managing director of a multi-national company with offices in Dubai, Nigeria and London, as well as Dunfermline, stood down after three years on the East End Park board in 2010, citing his ‘ever-increasing business commitments’.

The 59-year-old is understood to now live in the Middle East but is a lifelong fan of the Fifers and has opened discussions with the Pars United umbrella group over the club’s future.

Pars United – spearheaded by club legend Jim Leishman and Bob Garmory, of main sponsor the Purvis Group – have launched a campaign to raise £500,000, with the aim of buying 
the club via a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) before the start of next season. Leishman said: “Ronnie has been in talks with Pars United about our fund-raising efforts and our bid to put together a CVA for the club and we will see what comes out of it.”

Weymes, whose Multi-Valve Technology operation supplies valves to clients in the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, Malaysia, Singapore and China, was reportedly back at Dunfermline for a game towards the end of the season following the club’s descent into administration in March.

Pars United has raised almost a fifth of the £100,000 target set for donations from individual supporters.
