One goal not enough for ambitious Mohamed Chalali

Mohamed Chalali is determined to prove Craig Brown did not make a mistake in signing him after the Algerian claimed his first goal for Aberdeen.

Chalali headed an equaliser within two minutes of coming on as a 65th-minute substitute before Kari Arnason’s stunning late effort earned the Dons a 2-1 win at Dundee United.

The 22-year-old has made three starts since joining from Greek side Panionios in the summer, with a further nine appearances from the bench, and is determined to prove his worth in the coming months. “It was absolutely fantastic to get the goal as it was my first touch,” Chalali told RedTV. “It was a very important goal for the team. It is a good start to the year, but I have to keep working hard.

“One goal is nothing. I want to give more. I want to prove the coaches did not make a mistake when they signed me. I want to give more for the team.”

Brown’s men have lost just one of their last six games and Chalali has urged his team-mates to repeat their late efforts at Tannadice. “We must keep in our minds how we played in the last 20 minutes,” he said. “How we have given everything to win the game. It was a tough game against a good team so it’s a very good win.”

The forward also hailed the travelling support of more than 4,000 fans. “They were abso- lutely fantastic,” he said. “We worked very hard to win for them. When I was warming up, the fans were singing my name. I felt I had to give something back for the confidence they gave me.

“When they sing your name it is because they want to push you to do well. They were especially good when we were losing. They kept supporting us. They are behind us all the time.”
