‘Old head’ Fordyce eyes three points

Yet the defender was the  oldest head in Livi’s back four in Tuesday’s League Cup win over Dumbarton, as injuries put him alongside teenagers Ross  Docherty, Connor McDonald and Dean Cummings at the back.

Fordyce was pleased with the way they coped in the 120 minutes that it took for the Lions to see off their First Division opponents 3-2, and hopes to see the side build on that result in league action at Falkirk on Sunday.

He said: “It made me feel old to be honest. It was a young back four but I thought we handled it well. We talked to each other and had Andy [McNeil] at the back of us as well who is an experienced boy and keeps helping us.

“The most important thing as a cup game was to get through. It was good to score goals and especially in extra time I thought we showed some good quality. The third goal showed what we can do when we pass the ball.”

With an improved showing at Raith Rovers last week, Fordyce is hopeful the side can show even better form when they take  on Steven Pressley’s men this weekend.

“Raith was definitely an  improvement from the week before against Airdrie,” he said. “We got forward and created a lot more chances. It was just disappointing we didn’t sneak a goal and their goalie made two great saves.”

“They had a few chances at the end and we had some too so a draw was probably an even result for the match. They’d had five wins in a row so it’s not a bad point away from home and we’ve got take that as a positive.

“Hopefully we can come away with a result on Sunday at Falkirk. They got a good result at Morton which shows great character from them coming off a couple of defeats.

“Hopefully we can go and  get the same result as last time there [a 4-3 win at Falkirk]. We want to play our flowing football and get three points.”
