'˜No room' for Rangers skipper Lee Wallace in Scotland squad

Mark McGhee insists the quality that already exists within the Scotland squad is the reason Rangers captain Lee Wallace wasn't picked for the upcoming friendly double-header.

The Tartan Army travel to Prague for a match this coming Thursday against the Czech Republic before entertaining Denmark at Hampden next Tuesday.

National team coach Gordon Strachan took the unusual approach of selecting two differing squads for each friendly, with 33 players picked in total.

This led to much debate about those who missed out, with Wallace high up on people’s lists of talents unfairly snubbed.

Fellow left back Graeme Shinnie was another player many expected to make it who didn’t earn a place, though Scotland coach McGhee insists there just wasn’t enough room, despite the two squads, to keep everyone happy.

“We can’t accommodate everyone in every position,” he said. “Andy Robertson has done brilliantly. Charlie Mulgrew will play left back as well. We can’t have everyone in the squad. Mulgrew and Robertson are the ones in possession. There is no place for those other players.”
