• Nicky Clark signs for Rangers on three-year deal

• 21-year-old scored 41 goals last season

The striker, 21, whose 41-goal haul for Queen of the South earned him the PFA Scotland Second Division Player of the Year award, will be registered by Rangers on 1 September when their 18-month SFA player registration embargo is lifted.

Clark, whose father Sandy played at Ibrox between 1983 and 1985, is the fourth addition to manager Ally McCoist’s squad as he prepares for the 2013-14 Second Division campaign.

Scottish international keeper Cammy Bell, English midfielder Nicky Law and Irish striker Jon Daly left SPL clubs Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Dundee United respectively to join Rangers under freedom of contract.

Clark, who helped Queen of the South win the Second Division and Ramsdens Cup double this year, had offers from clubs in a higher tier of league football in both Scotland and England.

But, although he will now remain a Second Division player for at least one more season, Clark insists he would have been foolish not to sign for Rangers.

“I did have other options, a couple down south and a couple up here,” said Clark. “But, as soon as I knew Rangers wanted to sign me, there was really only one place I wanted to come.

“I did consider the other options. You need to. But, if Rangers want to sign you, I’d be daft to turn it down. It’s good to finally put it to bed and sign the contract. It’s a great day for me. To sign for Rangers is amazing.

“I wouldn’t say I was worried it wasn’t going to happen, but I was just desperate to get it done.

“I came here because of the history and the fanbase. It’s incredible. There were more than 48,000 here most weeks last season and I just want to be part of the journey that takes this club back to where it belongs in the SPL and in Europe.”
