Newcastle bid to get Andy Carroll back from Liverpool fails

LIVERPOOL last night rebuffed a bold approach from Newcastle to bring England striker Andy Carroll back to Tyneside.

It is understood the Magpies are keen to secure a season-long loan deal for the man they sold to Liverpool for £35 million in January last year, with a view to sealing a permanent switch.

The news came amid speculation that the 23-year-old is not part of Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers’ long-term plans.

However, Liverpool turned Newcastle’s loan offer down, although it is understood they would be willing to entertain offers for the forward. When it emerged that Rodgers might be prepared to allow him to leave, West Ham were also keen to unite Carroll with former Newcastle team-mate Kevin Nolan following their return to the Barclays Premier League, while AC Milan were also
credited with an interest.

If Liverpool did allow Carroll to leave, they would have to take a major hit in terms of fee if they were to sell the player, and a loan move could still be more likely in the short-term.
