New contracts on Livingston agenda

Goals from Archie Campbell and Kyle Wilkie either side of the break were enough to see the Cappielow men head west with all three points as Allan Moore’s team tried in vain to keep the title race with Partick Thistle alive. The Jags won 2-0 at Falkirk to clinch the title.

It was a disappointing showing from Livi, who only have a handful of players signed up beyond the end of the season and Burchill said that is something that the club would look to address as the end of term nears.

He said: “There’s a lot of guys out of contract at this time of the season so I don’t know if some guys find it difficult to play with that sort of pressure – but we’re going to try and sort that side of things out as quickly as possible.

“It looks a wee bit like there’s uncertainty in the dressing-room just now so we need to get that sorted.

“People might say we play good football, but from what I’ve seen over the course of the season we’ve lost a lot of cheap goals and we’ve got to turn some more of these games in our direction.

“There are two games left, so hopefully we see that.”

The Lions had the better of tentative opening stages, with Liam Fox firing over the bar from the edge of the box after neat build-up play.

Morton should have gone ahead on 40 minutes, but after Wilkie hit the bar from 18 yards Colin McMenamin somehow contrived to nod the ball over from six yards with the goal gaping.

The former Livi forward made amends just four minutes later though as he burst into space down the left wing before squaring for Campbell, who slotted home.

The visitors killed the game off as a contest on 55 minutes. Wilkie picked the ball up 20 yards out and squeezed between the Livi backline before rolling the ball under Darren Jamieson.

Wilkie could have had a second with 20 minutes to go, but Jamieson reacted brilliantly to tip his goal-bound shot over the bar.
