Neil Lennon '˜no regrets' over famous flare up with Ally McCoist

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon insists he has no regrets over the moment he and Rangers assistant Ally McCoist squared up to each other at the conclusion of an Old Firm game.

The flare up occurred at the end of a Scottish Cup replay at Celtic Park back in 2011. Mark Wilson netted the only goal of a match marred by three red cards dished out to visiting Rangers players.

As Lennon made his way over to the Rangers bench, McCoist said something that seemed to incite a rage inside the Celtic boss, with both parties having to be restrained.

Lennon admits that the pair may have let their emotions get the best of them, but he believes it’s a natural reaction when dealing with the intensity of an Old Firm derby.

He told Sky Sports “There was a lot going on that night and I have no regrets. I am sure Ally doesn’t have any regrets either.

“It is something that the game does to you, it brings out instincts in you that you probably wouldn’t normally show.

“In the cold light of day, you are thinking ‘what are you doing?’. But, at the time, we both reacted and it is a great talking point from Old Firm history.
