Myatt wants Preston to keep on top

Preston ATHLETIC boss Stevie Myatt is determined that his club will continue to maintain their top spot in the Central Taxis First Division – a position they have occupied since the opening day of the season – after they host near neighbours Easthouses Lily at the Pennypit.

“We won our first game of the season against Heriot-Watt University and have never been knocked off the top perch,” stressed Myatt. “Effectively, our season is now an 11-game campaign and we start it with the benefit of a two-point lead against all of our closest rivals.

“It could have been more had we not conceded a stoppage time goal against Craigroyston and bad defensive errors cost us in our defeat before Christmas to Eyemouth United.”

Preston have not played for four weeks and Myatt is undecided whether the extra week his side have had idle will be beneficial or otherwise.

“I took the opportunity to watch tomorrow’s opponents in their 3-0 win against Hawick Royal Albert last Saturday,” said Myatt.

“However, it was difficult to learn too much in what were absolutely horrendous weather conditions. What I do know about Easthouses sides – as a former player myself – is that they always work hard for each other and fight for their team-mates.”

Myatt added: “I am still keen to add to my squad, especially a striker, and tomorrow I will have Phil Hobbins as a trialist. He is a proven goalscorer. We want to gain promotion and return to the Premier Division at the first opportunity.”

Apart from Kevin Morrison, who is suspended, Myatt has the luxury of a full squad to choose from.
