Musselburgh mugged with a sucker punch

Musselburgh 1Carnoustie 2

Carnoustie stole the points in a smash-and-grab raid.

The home side dominated from start to finish but couldn’t finish off the many chances they created. Mattu King hit the woodwork before Carnoustie, in their first foray forward, opened the scoring as Brian Clark beat the keeper from ten yards. Musselburgh then had a strong penalty claim turned down.

Mattu King equalised just after the break with a sublime 30-yard volley over the keeper as Musselburgh turned on the pressure. Carnoustie, though, scored what turned out to be the winner with a scrambled goal from substitute Michael McIlravey midway through the second period. Musselburgh then pushed on again in an attempt to grab a share of the points but, it wasn’t to be and they had Stevie Noble sent off for a last-man tackle.
