Musselburgh manager McGlynn hails new boys as rebuilding job gathers momentum

His finds include Michael McKenna, a Musselburgh boy who, after a spell working down south, is already catching the eye of senior clubs,  according to his manager.

McGlynn moved on the likes of the Renton brothers, Kieron and Kris, as well as Paul Tansey during the close season. It left him having to bring in a raft of new players, with seven making their ’Burgh debuts against Lochee earlier in the season.

But McGlynn is relishing that challenge and was pleased to see his side record their first Super League win of the campaign with a 4-1 victory over St Andrews last weekend.

“The scoreline last Saturday probably flattered us. We’ve played better than that but not won games,” he admitted.

“However, we are definitely going in the right direction and, with no relegation at the end of this season due to reconstruction, the great thing is that the boys have time to adapt.

“We were able to get the wage bill down in the summer and, to be honest, I think I’ve found a few gems among the players we’ve brought in.

“Michael McKenna, for instance, is someone who had trials with Dunfermline and also trained with us when he was a boy before he went down to Liverpool to work. He’s come back a man and it’s no surprise that everyone has been raving about him as he’s a machine now. I’m hoping to hold on to him – but I don’t think I will as he’s destined for a move up.”

Musselburgh are in Super League action tomorrow at Bo’ness, who beat Broxburn 6-2 last weekend with the aid of a Craig Hamilton hat-trick.
