Musselburgh hope to cash in on Auchinleck cup tie

The two sides that met in last year’s final at Rugby Park will lock horns again in the Junior game’s top competition after coming out of the hat together in the fourth-round draw.

Musselburgh got home advantage for the January 21 tie and McGlynn is urging locals to turn out in force, just as they did for the final in June.

“It’s a tasty one and hopefully we’ll get a big crowd along to Olivebank,” said the Burgh boss, who is believed to be a contender for the vacant post at Linlithgow. “If we can sell some hospitality as well, it will bring in some money for the club.”

He’ll be happy to have learned that Hearts are due up in Inverness that day, increasing chances of attracting along some neutrals. Ironically, Auchinleck will be at Tynecastle the previous weekend, having already been drawn to face Hearts in the SFA Scottish Cup.

“I’ll be getting a hold of the DVD from that game to have a look at them,” admitted McGlynn, who already knows plenty about Tommy Sloan’s side from last season’s final as well as watching them in the build-up to that game.

While conceding he’d rather have avoided Auchinleck at this stage, the Musselburgh manager is pleased to have home advantage as they seek revenge for a 2-1 extra-time defeat at Rugby Park.

“I believe they’ve still got almost the same team from last season and we pushed them close in the final,” he noted. “Getting them on a tighter park will hopefully be to our advantage this time. We’ll get a gameplan and certainly give it a go.”

Bonnyrigg also earned a home tie, though they appear to have an easier task against Maybole.

“We’re at home, you can’t ask for anymore than that and we are also up against a team that are two divisions below us,” said Rose manager Max Christie.

Bo’ness are away to either Neilston or Sauchie, while Arniston Rangers face a tough task at Largs, the beaten finalists two seasons ago.

Should Broxburn beat Girvan in a third-round replay this weekend, their reward will be a home tie against Glasgow side St Rochs.
