Motherwell sign Henri Arien in loan deal

Motherwell yesterday completed a six-month loan deal with Viking Stavanger for Estonia striker Henri Arien.

The 22-year-old impressed manager Stuart McCall in trial games against Newcastle and Morecambe and he’ll be named in ‘Well’s 25-man squad for next week’s Europa League tie against Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar.

“He did well when he was here and I’m looking forward to working with him,” said McCall.

Meanwhile, St Mirren manager Danny Lennon plans to hold contract talks with Danny Grainger and his agent.

The left-back, who was released by Hearts as he fought his way back from a cruciate ligament injury, played as a trialist in St Mirren’s 4-2 friendly defeat at Queen of the South last night.

The former St Johnstone and Dundee United player did not have his best night – two short headed passbacks led to team-mates conceding two penalties.

But Lennon said the 26-year-old, a former team-mate at Gretna, cannot be expected to be at his best after being out since November. He told the club’s official website: “He’s been a long time out and he’s a very good player. There’s going to be mistakes with the length of period he’s been out, but we’ll sit down and sit with Danny and his representatives.”
