Motherwell re-sign midfielder Hughes

Motherwell have re-signed former Rangers and Scotland playmaker Stephen Hughes on a short-term contract.

Hughes, who turned 29 on Monday, has been without a club since Norwich City agreed to terminate his contract in August.

Fir Park manager Stuart McCall has agreed terms with the midfielder, who made 73 appearances for the Steelmen between 2007-09, and Hughes will be Motherwell’s player until January.

He has been training with the first-team squad for several weeks and the deal gives him the opportunity to put himself in the shop window.

Hughes has one Scotland cap, earned in 2009 against Japan.
