Morton 0 - 2 Alloa Athletic: Alloa stroll to win

ALLOA’S impressive return to the Championship continued as they easily saw off Morton for whom printable words do not exist to get across clearly just how lamentably awful they were.

Take nothing away from the Wasps as they richly deserved their win as they worked hard, won tackles, had a tempo and took their chances, but it could barely have been easier as Morton offered little by way of a challenge and having vibrantly challenged for promotion last season are now squaring up to a relegation fight they – on this evidence – won’t survive.

Alloa had threatened through Stephen Simmons, Declan McManus and Andy Kirk as they dominated from the off before a quite sensational stop from home keeper, Nicolas Caraux, kept out a header from Kevin Cawley.

The writing was on the wall and the visitors duly opened the scoring on the stroke of the interval courtesy of former Morton man Graeme Holmes, who had oceans of time to stroke home.

Two minutes after the restart the game was over. Andy Kirk stole a march on his cement-footed marker to brilliantly glance home Michael Doyle’s cross to ensure the Recreation Park men march on and Morton continue to prop up the table.
