Mixed results in Centenary Shield

FOOTBALL: After a great 4-0 opening-round victory over Northern Ireland, Scotland lost 2-1 to Wales and then drew 1-1 with the Republic of Ireland in the Centenary Shield. Scotland face England in Newcastle on 12 April.

The Welsh match took place at Station Park in Forfar, while Waterford was the venue for the Republic of Ireland contest. The home side took the lead in the final minute of the first half but Lawrence Shankland (Bannerman High School) equalised in the second-half.

Meanwhile, the boys’ National Trophies have reached the final stage. In the under-15 semi-finals, Fife drew 1-1 with Forth Valley before going through 5-4 on penalties, while Lanarkshire beat Edinburgh 3-1. In the Senior National Trophy semi-finals, Dundee beat Aberdeen 2-0 and Forth Valley crushed Lothian 6-1. The dates of both finals will be announced after the Scottish Premier League has arranged its post-split fixtures.
