Miller hopes Star and their rivals go up

Alan MILLER has admitted he’d love to see his Newtongrange side and rivals Penicuik Athletic win promotion to the Super League this season.

The teams face each other in the Premier League at New Victoria Park tomorrow with both seeking three points to boost their hopes of stepping up to the top flight.

Ahead of the derby, Star boss Miller said: “Derbies are what the supporters want. If both teams could get promotion it would be great for the area. Teams like Bonnyrigg, Musselburgh, Penicuik and ourselves would bring big crowds.

“Derbies create their own high levels of interest. Penicuik have been going well recently and are just as ambitious as ourselves. We both want promotion and that makes for a good game of football. Both of us are still within striking distance of the top so it’s important that we keep things going.

“Our squad is fit and everyone will be up for this game.”

Penicuik have bounced back from their Scottish Junior Cup defeat at the hands of Auchinleck but will miss the driving force of Ryan Gay, who is suspended for four games.

However, they have signed ex-Bonnyrigg and Berwick striker Craig Reilly and he should add some power to their strike force.

Boss Craig Meikle said: “It’s exciting to be playing a competitive game after something like four weeks out. This game is a good opportunity to get into the promotion race as we have a couple of games in hand over Star. We’re in a better position than this stage last season but there are some massive games coming up so it’s important that we get something from this one.”
