McLeod strikes late winner for Spartans

EAST OF SCOTLAND: Spartans opened an eight-point gap at the top of the Central Taxis Premier Division by beating second-placed Civil Service Strollers 2-1 thanks to a superb stoppage-time goal from striker Keith McLeod.

Strollers took a first-half lead through a penalty from Scott Gormley after he had been upended by Alasdair MacKinnon.

Early in the second half, Omar Kader equalised with a low 14-yard shot.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until McLeod tricked his way past three defenders to score with a left-foot shot.

Whitehill Welfare moved into third with a late winner in their 2-1 victory against Tynecastle. Dayne Robertson’s 20-yard free-kick made the difference.

Wayne Sproule gave Whitehill the lead early in the second half before Josh Morris equalised for Tynecastle.

In the First Division, leaders Preston Athletic were beaten 3-2 at home by third-placed Eyemouth United.
