Matches fall foul of wind

THE East Fife v Dumbarton match in the Irn-Bru Scottish Second Division was announced as postponed at 2pm yesterday because of high winds, while the Arbroath v Stirling Albion match in the same division was abandoned in the first half as the gales made conditions impossible at Gayfield.

Match referee Stephen Finnie made the late decision to call off the East Fife v Dumbarton match in the interests of safety, as Bayview Stadium at Methil Docks was hit by the worst of the Boxing Day weather.

A spokesperson for East Fife said: “Our apologies go to all supporters who were travelling to Methil. This decision was outwith our control.”

The game at Gayfield, another east coast ground immediately adjacent to the sea, was brought to a halt after 18 minutes.
