Manager James Fowler leaves Queen of the South

James Fowler has left his position as manager of Queen of the South by mutual consent.

The 35-year-old took over as player-boss near the beginning of last season after Jim McIntyre left to take over at Ross County.

Fowler’s first season was a roaring success as Queens bettered the likes of Raith Rovers and Falkirk to finish in fourth place behind the ‘big three’ of Hearts, Hibs and Rangers.

However, the success came at a cost with several of the team’s top stars from the campaign, including Gavin Reilly and Mark Durnan, were snapped up by bigger clubs.

The side stayed competitive throughout most of this current campaign in the battle for the play-offs but fell out of the race in the last few weeks.

They currently sit in seventh position, 19 points behind fourth place Raith Rovers. Assistant boss Gavin Skelton and coach Jim Thomson will manage the side for their final two league games.

Chairman Billy Hewitson said: “It’s always disappointing when a manager leaves, we thank James for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
