Lossiemouth leave Nairn seeing double

TWINS Ross and Liam Archibald doubled up to dent Nairn County’s title ambitions. The young siblings scored Lossiemouth’s second and third goals to earn a 3-3 draw and leave Nairn eight points adrift of leaders Forres.

Lossiemouth, perennial strugglers in the Highland League, now sit just a point off second place.

Even manager Charlie Charlesworth is amazed by the progress of his young side. He said: “Ross and Liam are promising lads but even our own fans have trouble telling them apart. They did really well for us in the second half and it was a great comeback. It just shows the willpower we have within this group of players. Even I’m surprised by how well we’ve done this season so far.”

First-half goals from Connor Gethins and Steven Mackay seemed to have Nairn on track for victory at Station Park. But Sim’s reply signalled the Lossie revival after 51 minutes and a lovely move ended with Liam Archibald’s 70th-minute leveller. Mackay netted his second of the day with five minutes left, but Lossie tore back at the hosts immediately for Ross Archibald to clinch the draw.

Forres took full advantage with a 3-0 win at Brora. Gordon Morrison’s double for Clach also helped the Forres cause as Cove crashed 2-1 in Inverness. Champions Buckie Thistle got back on track with a 3-2 win at home to Formartine, while Fraserburgh edged out visiting Rothes by the same scoreline. Turriff United beat Strathspey 3-1.
