Livingston glad to see off Dumbarton in thriller

Iain Russell’s goal put the visitors ahead at the break before Stefan Scougall, Russell again and Jordan Morton struck, with Mark Gilhaney, Alan Lithgow and Bryan Prunty hitting the target for the home team.

Former Hibs captain Ian Murray’s home outfit couldn’t extend their superb run of five wins in six going into the game, which saw Lions defender Watson enter the fray as a second-half substitute.

He said: “I feel good. Obviously its good to get the win but I’m disappointed with the sloppy goals we conceded. At 4-1 up the game should just finish, but four goals away from home was good.

“I thought Dumbarton were different class as well. Ian Murray’s got them playing well and I’m sure they’re going to stay up.

“It’s difficult coming on as a centre back [during the game] because everyone’s fired up. I just had to make sure I had a good warm up.

“It was a great win that keeps us up there [fourth]. We just keep going about our job quietly and were happy with that. We’ve got Dumbarton again next week so we know we’ll be in for a hard game.”

A tight first half was tipped in the visitors’ favour with 43 minutes gone, as a deft Marc McNulty pass teed up Russell. That was despite Prunty passing up a great chance in the second minute, where he fired straight at Andy McNeil from six yards.

It was two just after the break when Tony Andreu squared for Scougall, but Gilhaney pulled one back after 71 minutes with a fine effort from the edge of the box. Booth crossed for Russell to make it 3-1 with just under ten minutes to go, then Morton’s spectacular effort looked to have sealed a comfortable win.

The home side then produced a stoppage-time rally as Lithgow bundled in a corner before Prunty volleyed home from 18 yards.
