The former Scotland midfielder is reportedly being considered by Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson as he seeks a successor to Ray McKinnon.

“I think [Dumbarton manager] Stevie Aitken was linked with the job as well,” responded Hopkin when asked about United’s interest. “I’m really enjoying my time here and we’re punching well above our weight.

Keeper Graeme Smith gift-wrapped Livingston’s opener when he allowed Jack McMillan’s shot to squirm through his grasp after two minutes but five minutes later Jordan Sinclair’s free kick hauled Brechin level.

However, a strike on the hour mark from skipper Craig Halkett and a third from substitute Dylan Mackin ensured Kalvin Orsi’s penalty five minutes from time was no more than a consolation for Brechin.
