Lennon on brink of signing new St Mirren contract

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon hopes to sign a new contract next week as he looks to fully develop his transformation of the Paisley club.

Lennon this week dismissed speculation he had been interviewed for the vacant managerial position at Hibernian. St Mirren finished second bottom in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League in Lennon’s first season in charge, but they lie sixth ahead of today’s visit of Dunfermline as the former Cowdenbeath manager instils a more expansive and attractive style of play.

Lennon revealed talks aimed at extending his contract were progressing well. “They are coming along very, very nicely and I’m hoping, come the early part of next week, that will be concluded,” he said. “I have a fantastic job here and one that I’m only halfway through. And I’m very, very determined to finish it.”

St Mirren have received plaudits for their play this season but Lennon believes there is more of an end product to come with the ultimate aim a top-six place. “It’s always nice your club is getting spoken about in the correct manner,” he said. “And it’s great that we are sitting in the top half of the table. That’s certainly going to be our aim throughout.”
