Leith suffer Stirling backlash

After suffering their first league loss of the season last week, the University of Stirling bounced back with a demolition of Leith Athletic.

It wasn’t until the 31st minute that the scoring began when Robert Pearson played a slick one-two inside a crowded box before slotting into the net. Stirling doubled their lead through an Atkins header, and when Craig Mason was left free to head home minutes before half-time, it was 3-0.

Leith collapsed after the break and Stirling’s next goal came when Michael Pentland nodded a perfect long ball past goalkeeper Iain Gordon. Four minutes later Chris Geddes’ placed shot made it 5-0, and the sixth goal came soon after when defender Jack Nixon headed home from a corner. Nixon then claimed his brace after a James Drummond dummy, and the scoring was completed late on when Geddes’ shot was parried to leave substitute Stephen Hoyle a tap in.
