Leigh Griffiths the penalty hero for Wolves

SCOTLAND striker Leigh Griffiths’s injury-time penalty gave Wolves a dramatic 2-1 victory over Crawley Town at Molineux in the English League one last night.

Griffiths, who has returned to the Midlands side after a loan spell at Hibs, showed composure to smash home from 12 yards just moments after forward Billy Clarke looked to have stolen a point for the visitors.

Bjorn Sigurdarson headed Kevin Doyle’s left-wing cross home on seven minutes and Kenny Jackett’s men looked set for victory.

But Clarke drilled home from inside the area to level the scores before Kyle McFadzean was ruled to have blocked Kevin McDonald’s cross with his arm.

Griffiths shot powerfully into the bottom corner to send Wolves top of League One.

Also in League One last night, Carlisle United got their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Colchester.

The Cumbrians, who had lost all three of their league games by four goals, took an early lead through Matt Robson but Freddie Sears hit a 71st-minute goal to deny them victory.
