Warnock wields the axe at Elland Road

LEEDS midfielder Adam Clayton is one of six first-team players placed on the transfer list by manager Neil Warnock.

Clayton, Ramon Nunez, Billy Paynter, Paul Connolly, Andy O’Brien and Paul Rachubka have all been told they do not feature in Warnock’s plans for next season. Five other players – Alex Bruce, Lloyd Sam, Mikael Forssell, Danny Webber and Maik Taylor – will not be getting new deals.

Warnock, who has made no secret of his intended clear-out at Elland Road during the close season, met each of his first-team squad individually yesterday and informed them of his plans. Clayton, signed from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2010 after a month’s loan spell, has had an impressive season since making his first-team breakthrough at Elland Road in August under previous manager Simon Grayson.

Warnock hopes to agree new deals with Scottish pair Robert Snodgrass and Ross McCormack.
