ANNAN Athletic’s grip at the League Two summit continues to loosen as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat at home to Clyde who now sit second, a point behind the leaders.

An unstoppable strike from Scott Linton opened the scoring for Clyde and Scott McLaughlin soon doubled their advantage with a curling finish.

Peter Weatherson halved Annan’s arrears, only to be sent off for violent conduct before half time.

Clyde restored their two-goal cushion through David Marsh’s 64th-minute header and held on despite Smart Osadolor pulling one back at the death.

Queen’s Park missed the chance to go top and instead dropped to fourth as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Berwick Rangers at Hampden.

The Glasgow side’s profligacy in front of goal was punished when Darren Lavery converted a Dylan Stevenson pass in stoppage time.

Elgin City move to third place and within a point of the leaders following a 2-0 win over Montrose who extend their winless run to seven matches.

Craig Gunn fired home from close range after good work from Darryl McHardy on the hour mark.

Gunn then fed Thomas Reilly for a slick second which floored Montrose who slide to ninth in the table, four points above bottom side East Stirling who have two games in hand after their match at Arbroath was postponed.

Nathan Austin’s hat-trick guided sixth-placed East Fife to an impressive 3-1 comeback success against Stirling Albion at Forthbank.
