Lewis Vaughan came off the bench to net a double as Raith Rovers beat Forfar Athletic 4-0 at Stark’s Park to move joint top with Arbroath.

The midfield player returned to a rousing reception after injury and made an instant impact.

Raith started strongly and Nathan Flanagan went close on a couple of occasions before Kevin Nisbet gave them a deserved lead with his eighth goal of the season.

Vaughan doubled the Kirkcaldy side’s advantage with a right-foot shot seven minutes after the restart and Chris Duggan added a third four minutes later. Vaughan then scored again in 68 minutes to seal the win.

Arbroath squandered a two-goal lead as they were held 2-2 at home by Brechin City. Jason Thomson gave the home side the perfect start when he headed home from a Gavin Swankie cross to break the deadlock after only two minutes. Bobby Linn made it 2-0 in the 19th minute with a left-foot shot but Andy Jackson scored twice in a handful of minutes early in the second half.

Airdrieonians saw off ten-man Stranraer 2-0. Airdrie had their chances in the first half before Leighton McIntosh finally broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half with a close-range strike.

Stranraer were left short-handed when Andrew McDonald was sent off with eight minutes left and Joao Vitoria made sure of the points for Airdrie two minutes from time.

East Fife enjoyed their first league win of the season, prevailing 2-0 at Montrose. Ross Davidson broke the deadlock after 19 minutes with a right-foot shot and, eight minutes later, Jonathan Court added the second and that proved sufficient.

Stenhousemuir left it late to see off Dumbarton 2-1 at Ochilview. Bobby Barr gave Dumbarton a sixth-minute lead with a right-foot shot but Stenhousemuir were level four minutes later when on-loan Seb Ross netted.

The Warriors claimed the points with nine minutes left when Conner Duthie scored with a right-foot shot.
