League One round-up: Livinston stretch their lead

Livingston extended their lead at the top of League One on a day when goals were hard to come by in the division. Only four goals were scored over the five matches and no team managed to find the net in the first half. It took a late strike from the ever reliable Liam Buchanan to give Livingston a 1-0 win over Stranraer at Stair Park. Buchanan made the breakthrough after his initial shot was well saved.

Airdrieonians beat ten-man Stenhousemuir 1-0 with Iain Russell notching the only goal.

Mason Robertson wasted a good chance for Stenhousemuir when he shot wide from a good position. But neither side could find the net in a barren first half.

Russell broke the deadlock in 56 minutes when he reacted first to prod the ball home after Joe Gorman’s header was blocked for what proved to be the winner.

Jack Leitch almost brought the second with a left-foot volley which was just inches wide. David Marsh was sent off six minutes from the end for a wild challenge on Russell.

Queen’s Park and Brechin City drew 1-1 at Hampden Park after a late flurry. The match looked to be heading for a 0-0 stalemate until Andy Jackson scored his 13th of the season in the closing minutes from just a few yards out. But the home side hit back with Ryan McGeever equalising with a header in the final minute from a corner.

Alloa Athletic missed their chance to keep the pressure on Livingston at the top when they were held to a 0-0 draw at East Fife.

Albion Rovers and Peterhead also failed to come up with a goal in an uninspired game at Cliftonhill.
