League 2: Annan humbled by East Stirlingshire

Annan Athletic slipped to fourth place in League Two after suffering a humbling 3-1 reverse at the hands of relegation play-off bound East Stirlingshire who played nearly an hour with ten men.

Max Wright opened the scoring for Shire in the 21st minute with a crisp shot via the post. However, he was sent off prior to half-time for a foul on Rabin Omar.

Smart Osadolor levelled for Annan on the hour mark as a comeback seemed likely, but goals in the closing stages by Kris Faulds and Gavin McMillan sealed a confidence-boosting win for Shire.

With East Fife clinching the League Two title thanks to their goalless draw at Clyde and other results on the day going their way, the focus now switches to the race for play-off places.

Queen’s Park climbed into third place thanks to a 1-1 draw at fellow play-off hopefuls Elgin City who remain fifth, behind Annan on goal difference.

Marc McKenzie fired Elgin into an 18th minute lead only for the Glasgow visitors to restore parity within 11 minutes through Liam Brown.

A last-minute goal by former Celtic, Hearts, Swansea City and Scotland international striker Craig Beattie earned Stirling Albion a 1-1 draw at Montrose 
for whom Graham Webster had scored a thunderous 58th minute opener.

Berwick Rangers came from behind to record a 2-1 victory against Arbroath at Gayfield.

Kane Hester’s 69th minute strike put Arbroath in front but Steven Notman soon levelled and, despite having Calum Crane dismissed in the 85th minute, Berwick took all three points when Michael McKenna headed a winning goal from close range in stoppage time.
