Kris Boyd and Walter Smith recieve SPL awards

RANGERS manager Walter Smith and striker Kris Boyd have been awarded the Clydesdale Bank Premier League Manager and Player of the Month respectively.

The Ibrox manager was recognised for guiding his team to six league wins out of six in December while Kris Boyd earned the players' award for his impressive goal scoring form.

The striker netted 11 goals last month to take his total SPL goal to 160, breaking Henrik Larsson's all-time record.

Boyd's also scored five goals in his side's 7 - 1 defeat of Dundee United at the end of December.

The Rangers forward, who is currently sidelined with a groin injury, has been offered a three-year 18,000 a week contract to remain at Ibrox.

The delay in Boyd, who has 19 goals to his credit this season, putting pen-to-paper has seen a number of European clubs signal their interest in the player.
