Kilmarnock look to re-sign Kris Boyd from Rangers

ALLAN Johnston is interested in bringing Kris Boyd back to Kilmarnock less than seven months after the striker swapped Ayrshire for Ibrox, according to reports.

The 31-year old almost single-handedly kept Kilmarnock in the top flight last season as he scored 22 league goals, including the winner in a decisive final game of the season at Easter Road.

It was expected he’d continue his career renaissance when he dropped down a level to re-join Rangers for a second time in the summer. Instead he’s struggled badly for form, netting only twice in the league and losing his position in the starting XI in recent weeks.

Kilmarnock don’t have much left in the signing budget at the moment. However, it is understood Johnston held discussions with the club’s board and if any money were to become available then Boyd would be his number one target.

Although a transfer fee would be unlikely, Rangers may be willing to sell in order to save money on wages as they continue to battle financial problems off the park.

Kilmarnock have recently enjoyed a brief revival by winning their last two fixtures. That followed a barren run of eight games without victory, a sequence which saw them score only three goals.
