Kenny Miller fears he is nearing the end at Rangers

Kenny Miller has admitted he fears he is heading into the final six weeks of his Rangers career as he has not been offered a new contract by incoming manager Pedro Caixinha.

Although 37, Miller has been Rangers’ best player this season and has filled a number of different attacking positions.

A new deal looked likely under previous boss Mark Warburton and some preliminary discussions had taken place.

However, there has been silence since Portuguese boss Caixinha took control last month and Miller, who is in his third spell with the Light Blues, is now worried that his love affair with Rangers is over.

Originally signed by Dick Advocaat in 2000, Miller, who famously, of course, spent the 2005/06 season with Celtic, was brought back by Walter Smith in 2008 and won three consecutive titles.

He returned for a third time under Ally McCoist in 2014 and has been a fantastic influence in the dressing room as well as a top performer.

The former Scotland international believes that if Caixinha wanted him, talks would have taken place by now.

If it is to be the end, he wants to go out in a blaze of glory by winning the Scottish Cup and insists he intends to find a new club next season.

Miller, who yesterday helped launch a new match-day area at Ibrox for fans with sensory challenges, said: “Nothing has moved on at all. There has not been any chat.

“With a new manager coming in it’s kind of put that on hold a little bit.

“For me, you don’t really get to this stage and things are not sorted.

“So it could be that I have only got six weeks left at Rangers.

“So I want to enjoy it as much as I can by hopefully winning the Scottish Cup and finishing the league strongly.

“I’m still hopeful and everybody knows my feelings for the club and where I want to be but at the moment it has not moved forward.

“It would hurt me if I was to leave - of course it would. I want to be here and I still feel I have a lot to offer as a player.

“But that’s up to the manager. He is a man who seems to have strong opinions and views so he will make his own mind up on who he wants here and who he doesn’t.

“I have not had a private conversation with him about it.

“I definitely see myself playing next season, wherever that may be.”

Miller was used in central midfield last Saturday when Caixinha was forced into taking off defenders Lee Hodson, Lee Wallace and Clint Hill at half-time, but chose to use midfield players as their replacements.

Rangers came back from a goal down to secure a draw but Miller now wants three straight wins - Kilmarnock tomorrow, Aberdeen on Sunday and Partick Thistle on April 15 - to set up the Scottish Cup and Premiership double header with Celtic.

He said: “The manager had no choice with the changes because players were injured or unwell.

“He could have made different changes that were a little bit safer but he had made his mind up that he wanted us to be attacking.

“It worked because we won the second half and got back into the game and could have won it.

“We’ve got a semi-final to look forward to and another Old Firm game straight after that.

“But we’ve got three games to take care before that and if we can go on into these games with three wins under our belts it would be a big boost and there is no reason why we can’t do that.”
