Keeper Mark Brown signs for Ross County

ROSS County last night signed former Hibernian and Celtic goalkeeper Mark Brown.

The 31-year-old, who was released by the Easter Road outfit at the end of last season, is re-united with his former Caley Thistle understudy Michael Fraser on a deal until January.

Fraser has managed three clean sheets from four opening matches in the SPL, but manager Derek Adams said Brown would heighten competition, with back-up ’keeper Joe Malin injured for an indefinite period.

Adams said: “Mark has great experience. His grounding was at Rangers and he went on to play for Motherwell, Caley Thistle, Celtic and Hibs.

“Although he was a free agent, he was still training with Hibs so is up to scratch on the fitness side. He gives us another option and will ensure competition for Michael who has done superbly so far this season.”

Adams is contemplating freshening his side for tonight’s League Cup match against Raith Rovers after an excellent start to their first SPL campaign.

But, though his team now unbeaten in 38 league matches, Adams said: “Changes against Raith Rovers are a possibility – I haven’t really decided yet. First and foremost, we want to win the game, but there are players in the squad yet to make an appearance for us, so it may be an opportunity to blood them.” Midfielders Paul Lawson and Martin Scott are both fit to
return, if called upon, after missing the last two matches.

Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray knows something will have to give in Dingwall. “We have made an unbeaten start and they have carried on the fantastic unbeaten run they started in the First Division so someone’s record will go,” he said.

Ross County were very worthy winners of the league last season and have started life in the SPL well so we are without doubt the underdogs. However we have done well up there in the past and we will give it a real go in this game as well.”

Grant Anderson is Rovers’ only doubt after picking up a slight knock in the goalless draw with Livingston on Saturday.
