Junior round-up: Broxburn fightback secures points

A GREAT fightback from losing a goal in the first three minutes secured the points for the visitors.

In three minutes Mark Scott was allowed to run through a host of players before lobbing the keeper from 25 yards, but Broxburn’s Scott Pittman then levelled the scores with a superb strike half way through the half. Broxburn were awarded a free kick with five minutes of the first half remaining and Paul Millar fired in an unstoppable shot from 30 yards into the top corner giving the Carnoustie keeper no chance. Ferguson cleared a Tague effort of the line with his keeper beaten as Broxburn turned the screw, and Craig Young sealed the game when allowed time to gather the ball, look up, and send his shot into the bottom corner with 20 minutes left. Carnoustie had chances but overall it was a deserved victory for the visitors.

EMIRATES SCOTTISH CUP THIRD ROUND

Linlithgow Rose 3 - 1 Fauldhouse United

Rose took the lead in the 20th minute when a defensive mix-up presented Colin Strickland with the ball in the penalty box and he squared for Stuart McArthur to net. The advantage was doubled on the hour when a quickly taken free kick by Mark Tyrrell caught goalkeeper Iain Stewart napping. The visitors grabbed a lifeline through Mark Wilkins and although both Barry Nicholson and Kevin Ross were dismissed, they came close to equalising before Tommy Coyne sealed Linlithgow’s passage to the fourth round.

Culter 7 - 2 Edinburgh United

Edinburgh came up against a strong North Super League side in Culter and lost seven goals. Jamie McAllister opened the scoring for Culter before Robert Brown doubled their lead. Craig Gibson pulled a goal back for the visitors before half-time. However, five goals in the second half put Culter well in control. McAllister completed his hat-trick, Michael Taylor scored a double and a strike came from Neil Reid. Joe McVay scored a consolation for Edinburgh from the penalty spot to complete the nine-goal feast.

Hermes 1 - 2 Bo’ness United

Bo’ness United overcame a tough Hermes side in a game where all the goals were scored in the second half. The visitors went ahead in 52 minutes when Donaldson angled home. A controversial penalty decision gave Hermes the chance to get back and Cruikshank duly fired home from the spot. With eight minutes remaining Bo’ness scored the winner again from the spot, Hislop converting after being tripped in the box. Hislop almost scored again but his header hit the top of the Hermes bar.

Broughty Athletic 1 - 1 Dalkeith Thistle

Dalkeith kept up their impressive run with a well-taken point. Darren Flynn scored the opener for Dalkeith after 15 minutes but Broughty, who had Gavin Burns sent off for a dangerous tackle in the 25th minute, equalised with a penalty just before half-time – Graeme Auldy with the finish.
