Magennis admits he was “embarrassed” by Killie’s 4-0 opening-day home loss to Dundee, when he was one of three players taken off at half-time.

That was followed by defeat at Aberdeen but, on Wednesday, Magennis was on target as Killie held Celtic to a 2-2 draw at Rugby Park.

Magennis, whose team play Partick at Firhill today, said: “It was great to redeem ourselves against the best team in the country. We came away with a point but the most important thing was the performance. It seems to have boosted the morale a bit.

“We started with two defeats but, most importantly, it was an embarrassing performance against Dundee. It’s not the way we wanted to start the season, especially at home.

“Normally when you get beat you feel embarrassed anyway but, for me, Dundee was probably the worst performance I’ve ever been involved with.”

Gary Miller, meanwhile, is confident Partick will get on the goal trail this afternoon. The Maryhill men have yet to find the net after three games, albeit two creditable goalless draws away to Hamilton and Inverness respectively sandwiched between a 2-0 home defeat to champions Celtic.

Miller said: “There are positives to take, two clean sheets and the only team who have scored against us is Celtic.

“Two clean sheets out of three so early in the season is great. And we had to sacrifice a forward player against Hamilton when we had a man sent off.

“We created chances against Inverness and we hit the bar, so it is coming and it will come.”
