John Hughes keen to keep attacker past January

Inverness manager John Hughes will make a personal plea to Swindon chairman Lee Power in a bid to keep loan striker Miles Storey beyond January.

Storey has netted seven goals in 12 games for Caley Thistle and Hughes has not ruled out a permanent move for the 21-year-old, whose Swindon contract expires at the end of the season.

And Hughes hopes former Hibernian team-mate Power - who recently had a spell as caretaker manager of Swindon - can do him a favour.

Speaking of his transfer window plans, Hughes said: “The first one I want to do is Miles Storey, that’s for sure. I’ve been in contact with Swindon and hopefully we can keep him here.

“But the Swindon manager is an ex-mate of mine, Lee Power, and he’s a bit of a rascal, so I’ll have to give him a personal phone call just to make sure he does me a turn.

“Hopefully for Miles he is here after the Christmas window still plying his trade and scoring goals. I wouldn’t like to think it works the other way and he goes back to Swindon and sits on his backside. That’s no good for Swindon or anyone.”

Meanwhile, Hughes is still considering making a contract offer to 21-year-old Swedish defender Benjamin Omerovic, who is on trial with the club.

“I’ve been very impressed,” said Hughes, whose side host Ladbrokes Premiership bottom club Dundee United on Saturday.

“He’s a young one and this is a wee bit new to him in terms of the intensity which we train. But the boys have taken to him and he played as a trialist in the under-20s and acquitted himself very well.

“His age is good because he’s young but is he better than what we’ve got? There’s no point bringing in him if he’s no better than what you’ve got or unless he has the potential to be better than what you’ve got.”
