John Brown buries hatchet with Danny Lennon

Dundee manager John Brown revealed he had spoken to St Mirren counterpart Danny Lennon to clear the air after his psychological campaign against his relegation rival.

Brown unleashed his own inimitable mind games on Saints as Dundee threatened a near impossible escape from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League drop before their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Sunday consigned them to a return to the Irn-Bru First Division.

While Dundee have lost just once in nine SPL games under Brown, Saints have not won since their Scottish Communities League Cup final win over Hearts in March and the former Rangers player made a concerted effort to increase the pressure on the Paisley club, claiming he could smell the fear emanating from St Mirren Park.

Woeful

Lennon brushed off the comments while Saints captain Steven Thompson described them as “tongue in cheek” but Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon issued a withering response when Brown called for his team to improve their “woeful” form before facing the Paisley men.

Brown said: “I’ve spoken to Danny and Stevie Thompson and congratulated St Mirren. I told them they have had a great season with that League Cup final victory.

“We had a good chat and Danny and Stevie know it’s football and I had to do what I had to do for Dundee.

“And not just St Mirren, I would say to Pat Fenlon that I had nothing against his side but I had to get a reaction out of them when they played St Mirren because St Mirren could have put us down that day if they had won the game.

Disrespectful

“You get into heads. When you get down to this end of the season, you need another tactic to maybe just upset the opposition and maybe get them thinking a bit more.

“If I managed to do that, I was doing it for Dundee Football Club.

“It wasn’t to be disrespectful to Danny Lennon or any of the St Mirren boys or Hibs lads.”
