James Fowler: Queen of the South must get credit
The Doonhamers saw off the Ibrox side 2-0 on Friday night just hours after it was announced that visiting manager Ally McCoist had handed in his notice, and Fowler is looking to ensure that his side’s feat does not go unnoticed in the media storm that has followed McCoist’s decision.
Fowler said: “Of course, what was happening with Ally was big news and received a lot of coverage but our performance is worth shouting about.

“A performance and a result like that do not come along for a club like Queen of the South very often. I am told that the last league game at Palmerston was in 1964 and the last win over Rangers was nine years before that in 1955. That shows the importance of Friday night’s success to the club.
“I feel that the boys deserve a lot of credit for how they went about things and hopefully they will get it.” The former long-serving Kilmarnock player added: “We had just come off a 4-1 defeat from Hearts but we had played a lot better in that game than the result suggests.
“We carried that on against Rangers and I am delighted that Kevin Holt and Gavin Reilly scored the goals.
“Big ‘Holty’ does not score that many so to produce a free kick like that in front of a live TV audience was excellent.
“Gavin showed a good touch and then a fine shot for the second and, if Rangers had scored those goals, then they would be talked about for ages.”
