Jacobs cracker ensures a high five from Livi

The emphatic victory was Livi’s biggest home league win since 2007 – and their first at Almondvale in the league since February.

For Jacobs, the key to victory was fast goals backed up with an improved performance as Marc McNulty fired a double, while Callum Booth and Craig Barr also found the net.

Jacobs said: “I think we went out with the same desire we went out with against Hearts [last Tuesday] and we played even better and started sharper. We got an early goal as well, and I think that helped.

“You’ve got to be up for every game. I thought we had a good performance against Hearts [in the League Cup], but we took that on again.

“Its good to get a home win under our belts and hopefully we’ll kick on from there.

“I’m just keen to get back playing and get back into the team.

“I had to give Sparky [Marc McNulty] the first [free kick] to try and get his hat-trick, but he missed that one so I wasn’t  letting him take the second!

“Now it’s another big game next week against Cowdenbeath and we’ve got to go out with the same attitude.”

Livi flew at Dumbarton in the early stages and took the lead on nine minutes. Iain Russell twisted and turned down the left before driving the ball across goal, where McNulty was lurking to finish.

It was 2-0 three minutes later when a Tony Andreu cross was turned home by a Barr header.

The Sons were given a great chance to get back into the game when Bryan Prunty was fouled in the box, but Chris Turner dragged his penalty a yard wide.

The Lions made them pay on 36 minutes as Russell again set up McNulty via a deflection, and the striker volleyed home from ten yards.

McNulty slipped in Russell on 64 minutes, and when Stephen Grindlay parried the former’s low shot, substitute Callum Booth was on hand to score with his first touch.

Livi rounded off a fine  showing on 78 minutes, Jacobs’ free kick sailing over the wall and dropping into the net.
