Rangers won the match 2-0 thanks to second half goals from James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn. This was despite Mark Warburton deciding to keep all of his summer signings on the subs bench or in the stands from the start, opting instead to go with a starting XI exclusively made up of players that won last season’s Ladbrokes Championship.
After the game Blyth, who came on as a second half substitute for the hosts, was attributed with quotes that likened Rangers to League One opponents in terms of skill level. However, the striker now insists he never made such comments, responded to a tweet from the Daily Record on Twitter by saying: “False X I’ve always said Rangers are a top team and for the record they’re higher than the English third tier.”

Hide AdBlyth joined Motherwell this summer after his release from Leicester City. Following his debut he was quoted as saying: “I didn’t think it was overly difficult but it was a good test. I’d have to say League One is the highest level I’ve played against the likes of Wigan.
“There were good, fit and athletic teams there and obviously Rangers are there or thereabouts. It was about that level, if not higher.
“That is the closest I have been to Rangers’ level. You’re always going to expect Rangers to be fit and ready for the occasion. We expected nothing less.”
