Inverness sign Billy McKay on a new two-year deal

INVERNESS have secured a major contract boost by signing top goalscorer Billy McKay for a further two years.

Midfielder Ross Draper has also agreed a one-year extension to follow defender Gary Warren, who signed a new deal last week. Manager Terry Butcher said: “We’re relieved and delighted that Billy and Ross will be staying.”

McKay has scored 22 goals so far in his second season in the Highlands since moving from Northampton. Butcher said: “Billy’s been phenomenal this season, surpassing Craig Dargo’s club scoring record with 11 games to spare. Apart from his goalscoring flair, Billy is a very popular and much-prized asset to this club. He’s attracted attention with his goals, but he loves Inverness, he’s happy at the club and he had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.”

Draper, who like McKay is 24, signed for Caley Thistle last summer from Macclesfield and has formed a formidable central midfield partnership with Owain Tudur Jones. Butcher said: “Ross has established himself with us as an extremely professional and powerful midfielder who can both score goals and create them.

“Ross and Owain Tudur Jones have formed a fantastic barrier in front of our back four. We’re delighted he will be staying.

“This means we now have nine first-teamers booked for next season with Ryan Esson, Josh Meekings, Graeme Shinnie, Nick Ross, Conor Pepper, Richie Foran and Gary Warren already signed up. That makes us better prepared for the future than some other clubs and gives us a firm foundation to work on.”
