Inverness bid to extend Davis’ loan deal from Wolves

TERRY Butcher has made preliminary moves to keep Wolves midfielder David Davis at Caley Thistle until the summer.

The Inverness manager spoke to his Molineux counterpart Mick McCarthy last week with a view to extending the loan deal beyond January. Describing the chat as “positive” regarding Caley Thistle’s chances, Butcher will now seek to sit down with Davis to gauge his commitment to stay. But there is every indication the 20-year-old stand-out performer is happy to commit to another five months in the SPL.

Butcher said: “David is a young player with lots of promise who is learning all the time. He has done very well for us here so far and it is down to him now. If he wants to stay, we will give him that opportunity. I have spoken to his club and the response was positive, so I’m hopeful.”

Davis will speak to McCarthy by telephone before confirming his decision, but gave a strong hint he would like to remain in the Highlands for now. He said: “I’m contracted to Wolves until summer 2013 and they are obviously my main priority.

“But I have enjoyed my time so far with Inverness and the chance to play every week at first-team level is a great learning curve for me. I’ve got nothing but good words to say about the city and the club and the people here. I’m quite far from home but everyone has made me feel welcome and it is worth it to progress my career. Hopefully, this can be a good stepping stone in my career and you never know what might happen.

“I’m pleased the Inverness manager wants me here but I have to speak to Mick McCarthy before any decision is made.”
