Rangers chairman Douglas Park questions impartiality of Murdoch MacLennan in reply to SPFL chief

Rangers interim chairman Douglas Park has called on SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan to respond to a claim he is biased against the Ibrox club.

The Scotsman understands Park has now replied to MacLennan’s letter to him from last Saturday in which the SPFL chief requested evidence of Rangers’ allegations into the conduct of the governing body, its chief executive Neil Doncaster and legal counsel Rod McKenzie during the process leading to the vote on the contentious resolution to end the 2019-20 season.

In his response, Park has declined to detail the evidence Rangers say they received from a ‘whistleblower’. The motor tycoon, who replaced Dave King as chairman last month, is said to have ‘no faith in the judgement or impartiality’ of MacLennan.

Park has also called on MacLennan to confirm or deny the allegations in an article which appeared in Private Eye magazine shortly after he was appointed SPFL chairman in 2017. The article claimed MacLennan “hated Rangers” and had referred to the club in derogatory terms.

Rangers have called for an independent inquiry into the processes leading to last Friday’s vote and for both Doncaster and McKenzie to be suspended.
