Dundee awarded 3-0 win after positive Covid-19 test forces Betfred Cup opponents Forfar to pull out of tie

Dundee have been awarded a 3-0 victory in their Betfred Cup group match against Forfar Athletic scheduled for Tuesday night after the Loons informed the SPFL they would be unable to fulfil the fixture.

The Station Park club was alerted to one of their players testing positive for coronavirus on Tuesday afternoon. The individual is now self-isolating but with the Test and Protect process unable to be completed in advance of the match at the Kilmac Stadium, Forfar had to concede the match.

The match on Tayside is the second fixture to be cancelled after Falkirk v Kilmarnock was called off for similar reasons with the Bairns awarded a 3-0 victory.

Hibs, who play Brora Rangers on Wednesday night at Easter Road, are scheduled to travel to Forfar next Tuesday but that fixture could now also be in doubt.

An SPFL spokesman said: “Unfortunately, this is the second of tonight’s scheduled Betfred Cup fixtures which we have required to cancel and is further evidence of the very challenging season we are facing.

“We have real sympathy for Forfar Athletic, who were looking forward to competing in their first competitive match of the season.

"However, consistent with the announcement in respect of the Falkirk v Kilmarnock match, any team unable or unwilling to field a team in a Betfred Cup Round 1 group stage tie will forfeit the match on the basis of a 3-0 defeat.

"Accordingly, Dundee FC have been awarded a 3-0 win in the tie.

“We wish the player concerned the very best in his recovery and will continue to liaise with Forfar Athletic in the coming days.”
