Hudson backs Fishermen to hook leaders

The “Fishermen,” under the guidance of former Bradford City and Nottingham Forest defender Carl Hudson, currently sit in third place only six points behind leaders Preston Athletic who they face in a crunch game at home pitch Warner Park.

Eyemouth have picked up seven points in their last three games to make a serious assault on their promotion charge. “Obviously there are two clubs above us but there are huge games coming up for several clubs and I don’t think that promotion will be decided until the final week of the season,” said Hudson, who added: “There are a few teams who will still have a say in who gets promoted. I see the situation going right down to the wire.”

In their earlier league meeting at the Pennypit, Eyemouth beat Preston 3-2.

“That scoreline [3-2] flattered Preston because we dominated the game,” added Hudson, who faces a team without a manager after the shock departure of Preston’s Stevie Myatt at the beginning of the week.

Hudson continued: “Stevie’s departure could work either of two ways. Preston could have some very disgruntled players or, if they have a new manager, then they might start playing for places.

“Whatever way it goes, my players are certainly up for the game. If we go up it would be some achievement.”

Eyemouth have injury doubts surrounding Johnny Simpson and Sean Simpson while Ross Aitchison is unavailable.
