Horn is bound for Berwick as new assistant manager

Robbie HORN has left his job as the manager of Vale of Leithen to take up the position as assistant manager of Berwick Rangers.

SFL Third Division side Berwick confirmed at the end of last year that Ian Little would be in charge of the Borderers until at least the end of this season and Little has appointed Horn, who was previously a player and captain at the Shielfield club, as his assistant.

Horn joined East of Scotland Premier Division Vale 18 months ago as a player/ coach but was soon offered the manager’s job when Stuart Churchill left. “Vale was my first taste of football management although to be honest I had been keen to continue playing,” said Horn, 34, a former Hearts player. “I greatly appreciate the backing I have had from the Vale chairman Ken Brown and the secretary Alec Currie. I also inherited a great bunch of players and I have really enjoyed my time with the club.

“It was a big decision to leave but I played with Ian at Berwick and have known him for a long time.Alec Currie, the Vale secretary, said: “We did not want to stand in Robbie’s way as he has been given the opportunity to be involved at a higher level. He did brilliantly for us.”

“We now move on with the appointment of his assistant Jamie Burrell as our new manager with Colin Affleck as his assistant.”
