Highland League: Kirkwood’s no-show provokes fury at Wick

WICK ACADEMY are considering action after manager Davie Kirkwood failed to show for Saturday’s match at Turriff and went to watch rivals Brora Rangers instead.

Kirkwood, the former Rangers and Ross County coach, is set to be unveiled as big-spending Brora’s new boss this morning and skipped Wick duties to attend Brora’s victory at Lossiemouth.

The move provoked fury from within the Wick boardroom and dressing room. Only last May, Kirkwood signed what was described as a “long-term” contract, and Wick are understood to view his actions as a serious breach of contract and trust.

Wick chairman Colin Stewart said: “It is too fresh and raw to make any statement, but the club will issue a statement in due course.”
